Topics:
The course has been divided in two parts. The first part includes basic scientific information and clinical skills needed for genetic healthcare practice, including prenatal, cancer genetics, ethics and laboratory testing. The second part will focus on the counselling and communication skills required by those working with patients and their families. All students will be encouraged to practice their counselling skills in a supportive environment and to give and receive feedback. The course will include some exercises and discussion sessions aimed at facilitating professional and personal self-awareness of students, in order to enhance their genetic counselling practice. The course will include sessions on supporting patients through decision-making, prenatal and presymptomatic testing.
Target:
Clinical geneticists, genetic counsellors, genetic nurses and trainees in those professions. Students who are new to genetic healthcare should not attempt Part 2 without first completing part 1.
Very experienced genetics practitioners may wish to do Part 2 only.

Fees:
The Registration fee for the entire course (€880,00) includes tuition, course material, all meals, coffee breaks, social dinner and transportation from Bologna to the course venue (November 8, 2025) and back (November 13, 2025).
Transportation service:
On November 8th a shuttle bus will leave from Bologna autostazione (close to Bologna train station: https://www.autostazionebo.it/en ) at 5.00pm and from Bologna airport at 5.45pm approx.
On May 13, a shuttle bus will leave from Bertinoro to Bologna airport and Autostazione at the end of the course at 1.30 pm (estimated arrival time to Bologna airport 3.30 pm and to Bologna autostazione at 3.45 pm). In case of extra nights needed we suggest to spend the staying in Bologna.
After your registration you’ll be contacted by the secretary office with further details about the bus service (confirmation of the departure time, meeting points, ecc).

The rate for a single room occupancy in bed and breakfast is €49,00/night.
The rate for a double room occupancy in bed and breakfast to be shared with another participant is € 39,00/night/person. If you’d like to be lodged in a double room please specify in the field note of the registration form your roommate. If she/he does not attend the course, the payment for her/his staying should be done in advance by bank transfer. In this case please contact rpartisani@ceub.it
In order to arrange your accommodation please take note that the course starts on November 9th at 9.00 am and finishes on November 13th at lunch time.
ESHG Fellowship application:
A limited number of fellowships covering both registration fee and accommodation (in double room to be shared with another participant from Saturday to Friday, 6 nights) will be sponsored by ESHG. However, fellowships are not limited to these countries.
Applicants for fellowship should submit their request together with CV, motivation letter and a reference letter to rpartisani@ceub.it Closing date for fellowship applications: September 1st, 2025. A communication of acceptance (or non-acceptance) will be sent by mail within September 15th. Applicants who will not receive the fellowship can enrol in the course after September 15th. If you plan to attend the course even in case of no acceptance of the fellowship, please point it out at the moment of your application, in order to reserve you a place in the course.
