The University Centre of Bertinoro
The Centre is composed of three large historical and monumental buildings few metres far from one another. They form a unique block on the top of the built-up area of the ancient town, in a quiet and hospitable place, surrounded by a very pleasant and peaceful atmosphere.
The Centre was conceived and founded in 1994 by Ser.In.Ar. Ltd (the company which promoted and supported the decentralization of the University of Bologna to Forlì and Cesena) in order to host residential training courses, seminars, workshops and conferences as well as cultural and research initiatives.
A partnership set up on purpose by Bologna
and the Campus of the region Romagna, local Institutions and Bertinoro Town Council runs the whole Centre.
The "
Revellino"
The Centre secretary's office, some lecture-halls and a lounge area leading to some wide terraces delivering a striking view were made out of the "Revellino" (the Fortress outpost).
After the recent restorations it is possible to get into the Fortress directly from the "Revellino" by walking on the ancient communication trench which once connected the Counts' residence to their military garrison.
The Episcopal Fortress
The building of the Fortress was carried out by the Counts of Bertinoro and dates back to the first decades of the tenth century.
Thanks to its privileged position it was one of the most feared defensive works and a safe shelter from enemy attacks.
The ancient castle was well demarcated by the line of Ghibelline battlements (visible from the outside Court after the recent restorations) which was interrupted by four high towers whose bases are still visible.
Some halls of the "piano nobile" ("noble floor") are decorated with important frescoes of the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth century, some of which were rediscovered during the restorations.
At the ground floor of the Fortress there is the "Interreligious Museum", which contains findings belonging to the three monotheist religions in connection with the activity of "Mediterraneum", an agreement among the Universities of Jerusalem, Ankara, Tessaloniki, Bologna, Heidelberg, Tunis, the Gregoriana University and the Antoniano University for hosting meetings and researches on religious topics.
Guestrooms in the Seminary and in the Fortress
The Centre is provided with a wide guestroom area located in an ancient Seminary and at the second and third floor of the Fortress in a very comfortable place.
Next to the Seminary there is a canteen which opens when the courses take place. It can host up to 200 people for a self-service or a buffet service. Complete meals can be delivered under request.
