The director of Greenmarket New York greets Bertinoro

06/09/2013 Following the EXBO International conference held during the SANA Exhibition (International Organic and Natural Products in Bologna ), on Sunday afternoon, September 8, the director of Greenmarket New York, Michael Hurwitz, will be a guest at the University Centre of Bertinoro.

Greenmarket, a not for profit association, was founded in 1976 with a two-fold mission: to promote regional agriculture by providing small family farms the opportunity to sell their locally grown products directly to consumers, and to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to the freshest, most nutritious locally grown food the region has to offer.

The Greenmarket Program in numbers:

  • 54 markets in five districts , some offices work more days a week
  • 21 locations operating throughout the year
  • Over 250,000 customers every week in high season
  • Over 150 prestigious restaurants get ingredients from the Greenmarket farmers every week
  • 8,000 students participate in Greenmarket educational programs each year
  • The producers participating in the Greenmarket program give about 226 tons of food to City Harvest and other charitable organizations each year

Ce.U.B. who has always supported initiatives for the promotion of local agriculture and the environment (from the programs dedicated to aquaculture in the Mediterranean funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the most recent initiatives with CAAB), found in Michael Hurwitz an ideal partner to talk about the needs to rethink in terms of environmental sustainability and social patterns of food production and consumption in the light of innovative experiences presented at the conference in Bologna.
On the same day Michael Hurwitz, who is also an influential member of the Jewish community of New York, will visit the Interfaith Museum of Bertinoro.
